These solutions are prepared with sodium heparin according to USP standards for the composition of sterile preparations. They are available in 10-mL and 50-mL vials, optionally with Instech’s needle-free PinPort\u2122 technology integrated into the caps, and in prefilled syringes. If working with Instech Vascular Access Buttons\u2122 or PinPorts\u2122, solutions can be drawn from these vials using a PNP3M injector. <\/p>\n

Heparinized glycerol and heparinized glucose are catheter lock solutions commonly used in laboratory animal research (due in part to their performance described in the paper “Comparison of Catheter Lock Solutions in Rats”<\/a><\/span><\/strong> by Dr. Luo et al. in 2000 ). When working with these viscous compounds with relatively high concentrations of heparin, the dead volume of the catheter must be taken into account and care must be taken not to inject any into the animal. <\/p>\n

To decide whether 10mL or 50mL vials are more appropriate, note that multidose vials should be used within 28 days of first access.<\/p>\n
