Instech’s Automated Blood Sampler ABS2™ automates the collection of blood samples from laboratory animals, including mice, rats, and large animals. By eliminating labor-intensive manual sampling, it can greatly increase the productivity of pharmacokinetics research groups. In addition, it can reduce animal stress caused by handling and puncture. The sampler draws blood from a connected, free-moving animal according to a predetermined schedule, stores the samples in an integrated refrigerated fraction collector, and replaces the drawn volumes with intravenous fluid. This instrument, now in its second generation, builds on the proven foundation of a series of precision peristaltic pumps to move blood and intravenous fluids directly to their destination. The fraction collector has been redesigned from the ground up to offer additional features and high reliability. The ABS2 not only works with refrigerated vials, but is also capable of depositing 10-25µL microsamples directly onto paper for dried blood spots.
