Description
The effect of excessive Z-axis deflection on the health and viability of the tissue preparation has been much discussed since Geiger’s (2003) publication, and the 7000smz-2 vibratome, with a Z-axis deflection ≤ 1µm over a wide range of vibration speeds and amplitudes, consistently provides viable and healthy sections. The vibration mechanism of the 7000smz-2 vibrating microtome offers unprecedented precision with near-silent operation. Each machine is tested before shipment by specific measuring devices and comes with its own calibration verifier. The interface is user friendly (no foot pedal, unlike previous models) and offers simple one-button operation or a set of editable parameters for experienced users. Campden 7000smz-2 also offers long-lasting performance: not only does it guarantee ≤ 1 µm performance from the start, but the advanced vibration mechanism does not contain bearings and other wear elements. Therefore, it will maintain ≤ 1 µm z-ad performance for many years, ensuring consistency in the preparation of biological products without the need for costly maintenance. As for blades, there are both ceramic and stainless steel ones, so that the sharpening and honing facets of the blade edge correspond to the orientation angle of the blade toward the tissue. Ceramic blades have a particular advantage when slicing brain tissue older than 30 days. These ceramic microtome blades also have a second advantage: unlike stainless blades, they do not have to be replaced after each tissue sample, meaning they last longer.
