Description
When working with these viscous compounds with relatively high concentrations of heparin, the dead volume of the catheter must be taken into account and care must be taken not to inject too much. These solutions are prepared with sodium heparin according to USP standards for the composition of sterile preparations. They are available in 10mL and 50mL vials, optionally with Instech’s PinPort™ needle-free technology integrated into the caps, and in prefilled syringes. If working with Instech Vascular Access Buttons™ or PinPorts™, solutions can be drawn from these vials using a PNP3M injector. The 50 ml vials are sold individually; the 10ml vials are sold in packs of five. In general, multidose vials should be used within 28 days of first access. Syringes are available in packs of 50 (10 packs of five). While high concentration heparin solutions are mostly needed with open systems, they may not be needed when using a closed system such as that provided by the Vascular Access Button™. Alternatively, many people who rely on a closed system successfully use a heparinized saline solution to block catheters, especially in the venous system. These solutions are also prepared with sodium heparin according to USP standards for the composition of sterile preparations. This formulation is available in the form of easy-to-use, prefilled sterile syringes.
