Hot Cold Plate

The HOT – COLD PLATE is used to test the thermal sensitivity of animals to pain resulting from exposure to heat or cold.The HOT – COLD PLATE is an innovative tool that opens new fields of investigation for analgesia and nociception research, as well as a useful tool for analgesic drug screening using rat or mouse models. This innovative analgesia meter is based on a metal plate that can be heated to 55°C and cooled to -2°C (with an ambient temperature of 20°C to 25°C). An electronic thermostat maintains the temperature of the plate, and a digital thermometer on the front panel displays the current temperature of the plate. The animal’s sensitivity to pain following exposure to heat or cold is tested by placing the animal (mouse or rat) on the surface of the plate and starting a built-in timer. The operator stops the timer at the moment the animal lifts its paw from the plate, reacting to discomfort.
